Kavi Sammelanam – The Literary Vibes

Neo Geetanjali School recently hosted an extraordinary inter-house competition titled “Kavi Sammelanam – the Literary Vibes,” in celebration of Telugu Dinostavam. The event, held in the school’s auditorium, was a vibrant homage to the grandeur of the Vijayanagara Empire, recreating the royal court of Sri Krishnadevaraya. The auditorium echoed with the spirit of Telugu poetry and culture, with students and faculty alike immersed in the rich literary tradition of the Telugu language.

The program commenced with an introduction by the anchors, setting the tone for literary splendor. Mrs. Rekha, the CCA in-charge, delivered a heartfelt welcome speech, expressing the significance of the event in honouring Telugu literature. Following this, Mrs. Sujitha introduced the esteemed guests, adding to the anticipation of the gathering.

A lamp lighting ceremony by the dignitaries, accompanied by a soulful prayer song, marked the formal beginning of the event. The guests were then honoured with badges, symbolizing their important role in the proceedings.

Mrs. Rekha then introduced the Ashtadiggaja poets the literary luminaries of the Vijayanagara Empire to the audience,. As these poets took their seats, the auditorium transformed into a royal court, reminiscent of the Vijayanagara Samrajya.

The highlight of the competition was the grand entry of King Sri Krishnadevaraya, portrayed by a student, was a grand spectacle. Shivathmika introduced the king, and two girls presented flowers to him as he, along with his minister Thimmarusu, took their places in the court. The king, in his regal attire, greeted the gathering and delivered a stirring speech, officially inaugurating the competition.

The event then proceeded with a captivating welcome dance, performed by students Sanjana (Grade III), Saanvika (Grade VII), and Brinda (Grade X), enchanting the audience with their graceful movements.

The competition featured three rounds, each showcasing the participants’ deep understanding and appreciation of Telugu literature. The first round, “Sathaka Sourabhalu,” where participants presenting sathakas (verses) along with their meanings, impressing the judges with their poetic skills.

In the second round, “Rayalanati Vaibhavalu,” the Ashtadiggaja poets took center stage, presenting their poems and elaborating on their meanings, drawing the audience into the rich tapestry of Telugu poetic tradition.

The final round, “Theneloluku Telugu Bhasha,” challenged participants to select two words from a set of five and present a song, poem, or thoughts related to the chosen word. This round tested their creativity and command over the Telugu language, adding a dynamic element to the competition.

Following the intense rounds, the judges, including Smt. Gidugu Lakshmi Kanthi for sub-juniors and juniors, and kandaala Venkata Narasimhacharya and Sri Marumaamula Dattatreya Sharma for seniors, delivered insightful speeches, praising the participants for their dedication and talent.

The event concluded with the judges announcing the winners and providing their judgments, which were received with great anticipation. Rekha then presented the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all who made the event a success. The competition ended with a felicitation ceremony, where the Director Mr. Suresh Babu Damera and Principal Mrs. Rama Devi Perni honoured the judges for their invaluable contribution to the event.

The “Kavi Sammelanam – the Literary Vibes” was a memorable celebration of Telugu literature, leaving a lasting impression on everyone involved, and reaffirming the school’s commitment in preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Telugu language.
